BETASPORT value for Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield Tomorrow.
David Bridge
30 Jul 2010

2010 AJC Derby winner SHOOT OUT is pressing hard to topple Goodwood Handicap winner VELOCITEA for top billing in tomorrow’s feature race at Caulfield.

The Mick Price trained 4 year old mare VELOCITEA at $3.70* heads the pre post betting for the first of the spring group races at the heath tomorrow.

An impressive last start winner of the Group One Goodwood Handicap ran at Morphetville back in May where she defeated the up and comer CATAPULTED, ‘Froggy’Newitt retains the ride and from barrier 6 should slot in to a forward position early.

Dual Group One winner from the Sydney Easter carnival SHOOT OUT is a strong second pick, currently quoted at $4* with BETASPORT.

Stathi KATSIDIS who has virtually sacrificed the 2009/2010 Brisbane Jockey’s premiership tomorrow at Doomben (only 1 win ahead of Larry Cassidy with a meeting to go!) to ride the 3 year old, has been guaranteed the mount on SHOOT OUT for his entire spring campaign.

Whilst SHOOT OUT is coming back from the mile and a half of the Derby, like VELOCITEA they have both won 1st up over 1200m last prep, so there is precedence on his side.

Back in February he absolutely flew home to nail MORE THAN GREAT right on the line on a slow track in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes at Randwick accounting for blueblood MANHATTAN RAIN amongst others.

Drawn ideally in Gate 1 Stahi should have SHOOT OUT snuggled back in sixth or seventh settling and the two Group One winners should fight out an exciting finish to kick off a super spring carnival!

*odds displayed as at Noon Friday, July 30th 2010.
